Post-Match Report

Adeyemi: "Happy with the two goals and the three points"

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl, team captain Emre Can, double goalscorer Karim Adeyemi and BVB debutant Serhou Guirassy spoke about the 4-2 victory against 1. FC Heidenheim. The match reactions.

Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): "It was not an easy match. We should have wrapped it up beforehand. There were opportunities to do so. One or two people in the stands will have remembered last year. Today we did things differently and also deserved to win in the end, even if we made life slightly difficult for ourselves. In the first period in particular, we had several really good moments and heavily dominated the match. Compliments to Karim Adeyemi, who showed really good movement between the lines, to Felix Nmecha, who played a really good game, and to Serhou Guirassy. He gave us a great deal: his presence, the number of balls he held up, how frequently he was fouled, how well he linked up. He hasn't even had a friendly, he came straight from his rehab phase over the course of recent weeks. It won't be long until he scores."

Emre Can (to DAZN): "We were extremely dominant in the first half, but were only one goal ahead in the closing stages. Our goal for 4-1 was disallowed, then they scored to make it 3-2 – and things got tight. Thoughts of last year resurfaced at that point (editor's note: when they threw away a 2-0 lead and drew 2-2). But in the end, we deservedly won. Tactically, we played differently to how we did in the previous matches. We had a super plan and implemented it well too. Pascal (Groß) and Felix (Nmecha) played a super game in midfield. If we always play like that, we will be difficult to beat. We showed how strong we can be. That must be the standard."

test

Karim Adeyemi (to DAZN): "We played a good match. The conceded goals were unnecessary. I took self-belief from the U21s. That helped me a lot. The coach trusted me and I showed him that I'm here. I'm happy about the two goals; I hoped that I would get a third one but the three points are more important."

test

Serhou Guirassy (in the mixed zone): "We won, that was important. Heidenheim are not an easy team to play against. They had a 6-0 goal tally prior to the match. The most important thing is the team, even if I would have liked to score. Not playing for three months is a long time."
