Accessibility of this website

Borussia Dortmund is committed to making its web presence accessible in accordance with the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG), which will come into force on 28 June 2025 to implement Directive (EU) 2019/882 (European Accessibility Act).

The benchmark for assessing accessibility is the success criteria of the international standard WCAG 2.1 at Level AAA, as well as the European standard EN 301 549 version 3.2.1.

Currently, not all of the above requirements are fully met. The website is therefore not fully accessible.

The ongoing development process includes improving the accessibility of Borussia Dortmund’s website. The identified deficiencies and shortcomings are currently being continuously worked on as part of these improvements. Some areas are particularly accessible and largely meet the requirements.

Evaluation of compliance with the requirements is based on the review results from 15 May 2024. The website was reviewed to the maximum possible extent, including the success criteria of WCAG 2.1 Level AAA.

The following areas were identified as not fully accessible during the review:

• Some user elements on the website cannot be activated by voice commands, or can only be activated indirectly by voice commands.
• Graphics and graphic user elements do not always have appropriate text alternatives.
• Headings, lists and highlight elements in texts are not always correctly marked with the intended HTML structural elements.
• In some cases, textual references to content exclusively use sensory characteristics like colour or position.
• Image texts are used.
• Not all pages have a meaningful title.
• Interactive elements have labels programmed to be in English.
• The current focus position is not always clear.
• The search function input field is not labelled.
• After adjusting the font size via browser settings, interactive elements can no longer be accessed.
• The link targets are not always fully shown in the link text (AAA).
• Section headings are not used to structure content on the pages (AAA).
• Not all interactive elements meet the minimum size of 44 x 44 pixels (AAA).
• Abbreviations are used without their full form or meaning being provided (AAA).

The extent to which the new WCAG 2.2 criteria are met is also being addressed.

This declaration was produced on 16 May 2024, based on a preceding review in accordance with the specifications of the harmonised European standard EN 301 549 (version 3.2.1) by msg BiN GmbH.
