Pre-Match Report
Sahin prior to first Asia friendly: "Recognise now where we want to be"
Sahin and Nmecha took part in a media round in front of almost 70 journalists from Asia and fielded questions. Opposing coach Makoto Teguramori and team captain Chanathip Songkrasin joined them on stage at the Singha Complex.
The Borussia duo commented…
…on their arrival in Thailand.
Sahin: "You can tell from the great reception how big Borussia Dortmund are, even in Thailand. We're really looking forward to a short but certainly very beautiful time here."
…on the current status of the preparations.
Sahin: "Our preparations have gone well so far, we're taking steps forward. We want to take an additional step on Sunday too – that's what I'm expecting prior to the match here. For me as a coach, it's important to already recognise now where we want to be. That's all part of a process but it needs to go in the right direction from the beginning."
Nmecha: "First of all, it's a case of getting fit and settling into a rhythm. We also want to win games and gain momentum now, even though it's still pre-season. When we come back, we want to be ready for the season."
…on the targets for the game against BGPU.
Sahin: "‘We're preparing very professionally for tomorrow's game. Every one of our players is set to get minutes on Sunday so that they can all make progress with their physique and conditioning."
…on the season objectives.
Sahin: "The people who know me know that my team and I are very hungry. We always want to compete for titles at Borussia Dortmund. My expectations of myself and my players are extremely high."
…on the external conditions in Thailand.
Nmecha: "There are always circumstances that make it more difficult and that we have to adapt to. Ultimately, it helps us because it challenges us. You feel more energised when you're back at home and don't have to play in such a hot and humid climate."
…on their interest in Thai culture.
Sahin: "It's my first time in Thailand. I have heard many good things about Thailand and Bangkok. Unfortunately, we only have very little time here. If I get a free moment, I will of course try to soak up some of the culture here."
Nmecha: "I like Muay Thai, I've always enjoyed watching it. But I probably won't try it out in the short time I have here - unfortunately."
