BVB sign Serhou Guirassy
A few days ago Guirassy visited a specialist to undergo another medical examination, which showed that the injury he sustained while playing for his country after the end of last season would not require an operation. He will now follow an individual programme for several weeks to build up his fitness, and the medical personnel expect him to be available later in the summer.
Guirassy was born in Arles, France, and moved to Stuttgart from Rennes in 2022. Last season he was second only to Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane in the Bundesliga goal-scoring charts with 28 goals in 28 games, attracting attention from many of Europe’s top clubs.
Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund Managing Director for Sport, said: “We felt it was important in the interests of BVB and Serhou to get as detailed a diagnosis as possible of his injury from a specialist. It was much more important to be thorough than to be quick. Now we know all the facts, and we’re confident that we’ve made the right decision by signing him.” Talking about Guirassy as a footballer, Ricken continued: “It would be wrong to reduce Serhou to his ability as a finisher. Of course as a striker he’ll be judged by his goals, but his role in closing down opponents shows that he sees himself as a real team player.”
Sebastian Kehl, Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director, said: “Our expectations are to play at the highest possible level in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup, and we want to achieve our ambitious goals. To do that, we need top-class options in every position. Serhou is an all-round striker who poses a serious goal threat, and he will be a huge asset for us and our squad with his qualities. We’re thrilled that after his most recent medical examination he will soon be wearing a BVB shirt and scoring goals for us.”
Serhou Guirassy said: “It’s special when Borussia Dortmund want to sign you. Every child around the world who likes football knows about this club, the Black & Yellow shirts and the Yellow Wall. I’m very excited to experience all of that and to meet my new teammates. And it’s important for me to say that I have come here to win titles. That’s my aim, that’s what spurs me on. BVB showed last season what the club is capable of by reaching the Champions League final.”
