Post-Match Report

Reactions: "We now have an away cup tie"

After the first leg of the round of 16 tie against OSC Lille, Sebastian Kehl, Emre Can, Pascal Groß and goalscorer Karim Adeyemi shared their views on the match and the scenario heading into the second leg. The match reactions.

Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): "It was a fair draw in the end. We did a lot more in the first period and deserved to lead too. Lille had more of the game in the second period; we were generally more passive and no longer had control over the match. We were no longer able to get into phases where we held the ball up and brought more certainty into our play. Overall, we found few footballing solutions and often played long balls. It definitely was not the plan for the second half. We invested too little to possibly score a second goal in the second period. There's actually a clear message for next week after this game: we have to win."

Emre Can (to Prime): "It wasn't a good game at all. There wasn't enough intensity off the ball. We definitely have to play better. We were far too passive in the second half; we didn't get into areas to hurt them and that's what you have to do against Lille. We have to move better off the ball and we have to be more courageous on the ball. It won't be easy in Lille next week, but we're still going there full of confidence and with the belief that we can progress."

test

Pascal Groß (to Prime): "We played quite well in the first half and, in my opinion, should have upped the ante. We missed the chance to score a second goal. We subsequently lost control, weren't able to put our opponents under much pressure and let them back into the game. We naturally aimed for more at home, but it's still all to play for. We now have a tough away game, an away cup tie, so to speak. We're starting from zero; we have our strengths too and we want to win there and progress."

test

Karim Adeyemi (to Prime): "We didn't play our best game and weren't able to do what we had set out to do. It was generally a bit sloppy from the team and that's why it was difficult to create goalscoring opportunities. The attacking situations were particularly lacking in the second period. We should have won here. The fans were raring to go. But it's only half-time. There's still a second game. Then we'll bring it home at their place."
