Home game against Stuttgart: The announcement of refereeing decisions
What does the pilot project involve?
At nine Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga stadiums in total, referees will announce their decisions over the stadium loudspeakers in certain situations. The test phase will run until the end of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season. The project was launched in the last round of matches at the home games of Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bayern Munich, FC St. Pauli, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen. The other clubs taking part in the pilot project are Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg, Leipzig and SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
What will happen at the home game against VfB Stuttgart?
The referee will always address the crowd when he has reviewed a decision on the monitor in the review area on the side of the pitch or when he changes a decision on the advice of the video assistant. This announcement will be made via the microphone of the referee's headset and will be audible over the stadium loudspeakers. The referee will inform the spectators which match incident has been reviewed, the result of the review and the final decision.
What happens after that?
The DFL and DFB Schiri GmbH plan to use a total of 67 matches this season to evaluate – together with the Football Commission and all other stakeholders – whether the announcements of refereeing decisions can increase transparency in the stadium in the long term. The implementation will occur at all home games of the clubs that are in the Football Commission until the end of the season. This means that refereeing decisions will be announced at all BVB Bundesliga home games at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK until at least the end of the season.
