Ricken on the first half: "Embarrassing and unworthy"

Criticism of the team and support for the coach. After the 4-2 defeat away to Holstein Kiel, managing director Lars Ricken did not mince his words. “We have top conditions. You currently don't see the readiness to appreciate that."

Lars Ricken (in the mixed zone and to Sky): "Professional sport is competitive sport, in which you have to perform for 90 minutes and get results. The first half was embarrassing and unworthy. It wasn't until the 71st minute that we saw what could have been possible today. We have players with the highest expectations of themselves and we have the highest expectations of them. We have top conditions. You currently don't see the readiness to appreciate that. The coach has prepared the team outstandingly well emotionally and tactically, and so we're not having a discussion about the coach. The position we're in in the table is well deserved. It is not the product of coincidence or unfortunate circumstances, but of the performances we have produced. The table speaks for itself. We're all flying to Frankfurt together now and we're placing the onus on the team. Our expectation is that we at least win this game." (br)

The Dortmund lads have some long journeys ahead of them, as well as some exciting matches, some of which will be against teams which no BVB Under-19s team has played in a competitive match before (Karlsruhe, Union Berlin, Unterhaching). March, 11:00 CET)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe team from Saxony, coached by Sebastian Heidinger, finished second in preliminary round group B behind Chemnitzer FC, but ahead of favourites Hertha BSC Berlin. The team's solid defense is what makes it stand out. The most well-known player is striker Robert Ramsak, who became European and world champion with the German Under-17s national team. Other current DFB national players are Nuha Jatta (Under-19s), Fernando Dickes and Viggo Gebel (both Under-18s). The team from Leipzig finished 32nd in the UEFA Youth League table with only one win against FC Liverpool (3-1), and were eliminated.  \n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Karlsruher SC <\/b>(First match in Dortmund Saturday, 8. February, 11:00 CET; Second match 23. March, 11:00 CET)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe biggest surprise of the strong preliminary round group D came when the Under-19s squad of the second league team secured first place in the table, charging ahead with 35 points and a goal difference of 42-11, ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt (28 points) and the equally highly rated FSV Mainz 05 (26). "This cohort had already won nine of 13 games last year in the second half of the Bundesliga South, and that made them realise that as a young cohort, they can beat more experienced teams," said coach Ralf Kettemann, explaining the success of his very homogenous squad.
