A minute's silence for "Teddy" de Beer
Before the Bundesliga match kicked off, Teddy de Beer was remembered in various ways to honour his services to the club. A video with pictures from his time at BVB was shown on the screens. A de Beer banner adorned the centre circle and "You'll Never Walk Alone", which is played before every game, was dedicated to Teddy de Beer on Friday evening. The South Stand, which chanted ‘Teddy, Teddy’ over and over again long before the announcement, honoured him with a choreography that showed him as an active player. "Borussia was your life. Rest in peace, Teddy" read the tifo.
"Teddy was an indispensable part of the Borussia Dortmund family since 1986. First as a player, then as a goalkeeping coach and finally as a fan representative - he was someone who was at the heart of this club. He embodied not only the colours Black & Yellow, but also the values that unite us all: passion, loyalty and humanity," said stadium announcer Nobby Dickel.
"It's hard to come to terms that Teddy is no longer with us. He was one of those rare people who would always bring light into the world, no matter how dark it may be. We will miss his laugh, his big heart and his unrivalled loyalty. He leaves a void that no one can fill - neither in his family and at our BVB nor in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. He will always remain a part of Borussia Dortmund, a part of our history and a part of us."
The teams and spectators honoured Teddy de Beer with a minute's silence. Borussia Dortmund's players wore mourning armbands during the match. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, substitute goalkeeper Alexander Meyer and goalkeeping coach Matthias Kleinsteiber wore the words "RIP Teddy" on their gloves.
