Post-Match Report
Reactions: "If you slot them home, you'll leave the pitch as winners"
Lars Ricken (in the mixed zone): "The result is fair. We needed some time in the first 10 minutes but then we showed what we wanted to do. We courageously defended the ball on the front foot and forced many misplaced passes. Gittens' goal was outstanding. It was clear that Bayern would build up pressure in the second period with their quality. Greg (editor's note: Gregor Kobel) had to show on two occasions that he is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. When the score was 1-0, we had two huge opportunities through Gittens and then through Sabitzer to extend our lead. You cannot concede a goal much more unluckily than that. We shall determine what the point today is worth in our away game in Gladbach in a week."
Nuri Sahin (to Sky): "It is our aspiration that we also win games like this. But in the final minutes, I already had the feeling that we would need to defend against a goal for 1-1. I'm a realist. Overall, I saw a good Dortmund team today and I am proud of the boys. The goal for 1-1 was – unfortunately – deserved. We played a very intense game and pressed very high up. In the second period, Bayern switched to a 3-1 during build-up. That cost us energy because the distances became long. They then pinned us back at times. But we had two huge opportunities on the counter-attack through Jamie (Gittens) and Sabi (Marcel Sabitzer). If you slot them home, then you'll leave the pitch as winners. He (Sabitzer) cannot pass it in that position but he can slot it in."
Jamie Gittens (to Sky): "The stadium is crazy and always loud. It energises you to perform here. It is only my second match against Bayern. It is always hard and fast, a very good game. But it feels good to score in this match. I just saw that I had space to run into and then I smashed it in."
Pascal Groß (in the mixed zone): "‘We played very intensively, were strong in the tackle, switched the play well and had a lot of possession. In the second half, it was perhaps the other way round. Nonetheless, we played very passionately and had very good opportunities to score the second goal. It's the little moments that decide a match."
Nico Schlotterbeck (to Sky): "All in all, it was probably a fair draw because Bayern pressed well in the second period. But when you lead 1-0 for so long, you also want to win the match. It is the way it turned out. Jamal (Musiala) was totally free on the edge of the six-yard box, and after the late goal for 1-1 it was relatively lucky that we did not concede a second goal. The team is stable. We put everything into it."
