Post-Match Report
Reactions: "Our self-identity is on show at home"
Nuri Sahin (at the press conference): "We occupied the space well, had a good dynamic, good positional play and several chances to score. Freiburg had a triple chance as a result of a build-up error. Otherwise, we gave little away. That was a mature, a very mature performance from my boys. In Serhou's case (editor's note: Guirassy), I hope he's okay for Zagreb. We're happy that we were able to bring on Ju-ju (Julian Duranville) and Gio (Reyna), and I'm still waiting for the others too."
Julian Brandt (to WDR): "Every team likes to play at home. It's going well for us at our stadium. We're very consistent here. There is a certain self-identity here. And as is so often the case after a home game, we now have the chance once again to break our duck away from home (editor's note: in Zagreb on Wednesday). Maxi (Beier) already played some very good games, in which he also scored, in the week before the international window. When you're in the action, then it's also easier especially for him. He did a good job and also ran a great deal. He not only scored the first goal, but he also did a great deal for the team. Nobody is capable of replacing Serhou (Guirassy) like for like, but we made up for it today."
Waldemar Anton (to BVB-TV): "It was a good game from us. There was of course a bit of luck involved because after our goal for 1-0, Freiburg had a huge chance which we defended with all our players. The result is completely fair. We had many chances, even though they defended with 11 men. We played a good pressing game, won the ball very well and went forward clearly. Today we took a really good step."
Felix Nmecha (in the mixed zone): "‘We want to have more games like this. We had possession and chances right from the beginning. Then it's not easy for any team in our stadium. I can't make many mistakes in my position because I'm alone there, but I love it when I see a lot of the ball. And I hope that I get better and better. And sometimes I can join in the attacks too."
Julian Ryerson (to BVB-TV): "Overall, it was a good, controlled game until the end, even though Freiburg had a few good opportunities in one incident in the first half. You can never operate under the assumption that things won't go wrong; rather, you always need to have your focus on scoring the next goal."
