Ryerson and Bensebaini celebrate group wins

Three BVB players were in action with their national teams on Sunday night. Julian Ryerson's Norway celebrated a comfortable win over Kazakhstan in the Nations League, which allowed them to secure a group win at the expense of Marcel Sabitzer's Austria, who were only able to draw with Slovenia. Elsewhere, Ramy Bensebaini and Algeria fell behind early but were still able to enjoy a clear win over Liberia in Africa Cup of Nations qualification.

Julian Ryerson played the full 90 minutes for Norway in their 5-0 (3-0) victory over Kazakhstan in Oslo. In the 22nd minute, the Dortmund player almost helped to make it 1-0 with his free-kick from near the left corner of the penalty area - but Kazakhstan's goalkeeper was able to save the header from former Black & Yellow star Erling Haaland. Shortly afterwards, however, Haaland succeeded in finding the back of the net to open the scoring.

Austria were in control for a long time in the match against Slovenia at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, but only scored once (through Schmid in the 27th minute). Marcel Sabitzer, who played the full 90 minutes, created several good opportunities, but none of them were converted. Slovenia equalised in the 81st minute to make it 1-1, meaning the Austrians (11 points) missed out on group victory and direct promotion to League A, which Norway (13 points) secured by beating Kazakhstan.

Ramy Bensebaini and his Algerian teammates also won their group on Sunday evening. After Bensebaini's team fell 1-0 behind in the sixth minute against Liberia, the hosts successfully turned the game around to secure a 5-1 win in the Hocine-Ait-Ahmed Stadium. Borussia's Ramy Bensebaini was on the pitch for 90 minutes. With five wins from six games and one draw, Algeria won Group E with 16 points, ahead of Equatorial Guinea in second place (8 points), and thus qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. .
