Post-Match Report

Reactions: "We are going through this together"

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl and midfielder (and today defender) Pascal Gross spoke to the media about the cup match in Wolfsburg. Here's what they had to say after the game.

Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): "The feeling in the dressing room was disappointment and quiet. The team took to the task really well from the first minute, controlled the game and created chances. In the end, we have been knocked out, and that's tough. Everyone wanted to go through, and some went above and beyond. I can't reproach the team. It's also clear that we're not satisfied with the overall results. We have to stick together and work hard at things – as we have tried to do today. We are lagging behind our own standards. But we are going through this together. Unfortunately, the squad is quite small at the moment due to injuries. Nevertheless, we will try to win the game on Saturday. And I think we are capable of doing so. Today's game could have gone either way. It was the little things that decided the outcome. It's not as if Wolfsburg completely dominated us."

Pascal Gross (to ARD and Sky): 'It was an evenly-matched game. We fought and had our moments. We had our chances and could have scored one or two goals. You have to take advantage of moments like that in close games. It's extremely bitter to concede a goal like that after 117 minutes. When we concede a goal, I never see the mistake in one individual, it was a chain of mistakes. Our personnel problems are well known, but I'm not making excuses. We still have enough people on the pitch. We could have done more today. We lacked the final punch. We also have to try to keep a clean sheet. Three away defeats in a row is very bad. If you look at the games individually, we could have done more today. But in the end, the only thing that counts in the cup is getting through to the next round. The fans are amazing. At home, we win games with them and partly because of them. And away from home, the whole stadium is always Black & Yellow. I'm very sorry for them. They travel here on a Tuesday, and we weren't able to win the game for them."
