BVB have picked up just five of a possible 22 points away from home. But the Black & Yellows could take heart from their recent run of form: the team with the fourth-best attack in the third tier (32 goals) had lost just one of their last five games. VfB Stuttgart's second string were sixteenth in the table, with just three points fewer than Dortmund. \n<\/p>\nPersonnel matters: <\/b>While U23 coach Zimmermann was able to draw almost from a full complement of attacking players, he had to make changes in defence once again. At least centre-back Ben Hüning returned to the team after his suspension. The 20-year-old replaced David Lelle, who was not in the U23 squad, in central defence alongside Franz Roggow. Compared to the 2-2 draw against Wehen Wiesbaden, Felix Paschke also moved into the starting XI for Kjell Wätjen. Danylo Krevsun again took up the position of right-back. \n<\/p>\nThe match:<\/b> The U23s got off to a dream start in front of around 100 BVB fans: VfB goalkeeper Dennis Seimen had a big hand in Jordi Paulina's early goal in the 3rd minute to give BVB a 1-0 lead. The goalkeeper failed to clear his lines from a back pass, allowing Julian Hettwer to make a block. The ball ended up at the feet of Paulina, who had a simple finish from a few metres out. \n<\/p>\nThe goal gave the Black & Yellows additional momentum. With the lead in their favour, the BVB youngsters gained the upper hand and looked the more dangerous team in attack. However, Dortmund were initially unlucky with their finishing. Firstly, Hettwer missed the mark with a lob (6), then a shot from Foti was blocked just before the line (9). \n<\/p>\nThe Black & Yellow defence stood extremely compact and defended passionately against Stuttgart's ventures forward. The home side's lack of precision played into Dortmund's hands. Stuttgart only created the first good chance of the game after just under half an hour, but Samuel Di Benedetto's first-time shot zipped wide of BVB keeper Marcel Lotka's goal. \n<\/p>\nThe game was repeatedly interrupted by minor fouls. Referee Hannes Wilke showed five yellow cards in the first half alone - three for VfB and two for BVB. However, Dortmund did not let this get in their way and once again shone with efficiency. Stand-in centre-back Franz Roggow left the entire Stuttgart defence dumbfounded with a fine through ball to the onrushing Hettwer. Alone in front of VfB goalkeeper Seimen, the BVB attacker remained ice-cold and slotted home to give BVB a 2-0 lead (38). It was Hettwer's 10th goal of the season. \n<\/p>\nShortly before the break, Lotka also made his mark on the game: the 23-year-old parried a header from a few metres out with a strong foot save. This meant the Black & Yellows went into the break with a deserved 2-0 lead. \n<\/p>\nBVB continued to take command in the second half: Cole Campbell left four opponents in his wake and shot from an acute angle. The ball hit the post and then rolled along the goal line. Hettwer was quickest to react and forced the ball into the net (49). \n<\/p>\nThis third goal was a killer blow for the home side, who were all at sea defensively. Within a few minutes, Hettwer (55/56) and Campbell (56) missed three great chances to extend the advantage. Down the other end, the outstanding Lotka maintained his clean sheet with a fantastic reflex save (67). \n<\/p>\nStuttgart had more possession after this big chance, but still looked uninspired against a Dortmund side that continued to defend well. The Black & Yellows, who lurked for counter-attacking opportunities, missed more chances of their own: Antonio Foti's shot from the left edge of the penalty area fizzed just past the post (70), while Stuttgart's keeper was able to prevent the visitors from taking a bigger lead when he denied substitute Rodney Elongo-Yombo (83) and then Michael Eberwein (86). \n<\/p>\nCoach Jan Zimmermann:<\/b> "I think we put in a very mature performance. Of course, it plays in our favour that we took the lead early on. We closed down the spaces and had great moments in transition. That's why I'm absolutely delighted with the boys' performance today." \n<\/p>\nJulian Hettwer:<\/b> "We're just happy to take the three points home. How many goals or assists I or anyone else goes home with is irrelevant. Danylo Krevsun again took up the position of right-back. \n<\/p>\nThe match:<\/b> The U23s got off to a dream start in front of around 100 BVB fans: VfB goalkeeper Dennis Seimen had a big hand in Jordi Paulina's early goal in the 3rd minute to give BVB a 1-0 lead. The goalkeeper failed to clear his lines from a back pass, allowing Julian Hettwer to make a block. The ball ended up at the feet of Paulina, who had a simple finish from a few metres out. \n<\/p>\nThe goal gave the Black & Yellows additional momentum. With the lead in their favour, the BVB youngsters gained the upper hand and looked the more dangerous team in attack. However, Dortmund were initially unlucky with their finishing. Firstly, Hettwer missed the mark with a lob (6), then a shot from Foti was blocked just before the line (9). \n<\/p>\nThe Black & Yellow defence stood extremely compact and defended passionately against Stuttgart's ventures forward. The home side's lack of precision played into Dortmund's hands. Stuttgart only created the first good chance of the game after just under half an hour, but Samuel Di Benedetto's first-time shot zipped wide of BVB keeper Marcel Lotka's goal. \n<\/p>\nThe game was repeatedly interrupted by minor fouls. Referee Hannes Wilke showed five yellow cards in the first half alone - three for VfB and two for BVB. However, Dortmund did not let this get in their way and once again shone with efficiency. The reserves had picked up two wins in their previous five outings, but had also suffered two defeats. Last week, the Black & Yellows lost in Hanover. Their strong home form in particular boded well prior to the match against Wehen Wiesbaden. Coach Jan Zimmermann's team had picked up 16 of their 21 points at Stadion Rote Erde. The visitors from Wiesbaden had returned to winning ways the previous weekend following a four-match winless streak.<\/p>\nPersonnel matters:<\/b> A reshuffle was required in the Dortmund defence. In addition to Ben Hüning (red card), coach Jan Zimmermann was also without Patrick Göbel and Yannick Lührs. The trio were replaced in the starting line-up by David Lelle, Cole Campbell and Danylo Krevsun. Due to the absences, it was almost an entirely new-look back four. Lelle and Franz Roggow started in central defence for the first time, with Krevsun defending on the right. The left-back role was filled by Baran Mogultay as per usual.<\/p>\nThe match & analysis: <\/b>The U23s made a committed start and tried to put the visitors under pressure. However, their positive intentions were dealt a first setback early on as Wehen used their first set-piece to take a 1-0 lead. A flicked-on corner-kick from Tarik Gözüsirin found its way to the completely unmarked Orestis Kiomourtzoglou at the back post and the midfielder headed home from close range to put the visitors in front (8). The next opportunity also fell to Wehen. Fatih Kaya's shot was blocked at the last moment by Dortmund's emergency right-back Krevsun, who made a sliding intervention (14).<\/p>\nEven after going behind, the Black & Yellows continued to go forward with courage \u2013 and got their reward. Campbell asserted himself well on the right flank in the 16th minute. The 18-year-old's sharp cross into the middle was toe-poked over the goalkeeper and into the net for 1-1 by Jordi Paulina at the near post.<\/p>\nThe highly entertaining opening phase subsequently lost its flow after BVB veteran Michael Eberwein took a ball square in the face from close range and required treatment. As Jacobsen was the last man, referee Kevin Behrens showed him the red card (21).<\/p>\nNow reduced to 10 men, the visitors subsequently sat deep. That did mean that the Black & Yellows enjoyed significantly more possession, but they could not find any gaps in the compact Wiesbaden rearguard in the final third. Apart from one shot by Campbell following a piece of fine individual play (39) and an attempt by Foti (45+2), who had been set in motion by the strong dribbling of Campbell, BVB created few compelling goalscoring chances and it remained 1-1 until the break.<\/p>\nDortmund with more pressure<\/b><\/p>\nAfter the interval, it continued in the same vein as before the break: Dortmund piled on the pressure in what was a real game of patience, but still lacked penetration and ideas. Shooting attempts therefore initially remained few and far between. The first opportunity in the second period fell to Wehen. Following an intercepted corner-kick, the visitors switched the play quickly. A move involving Thijmen Goppel culminated in the ball finding fellow defender Florian Carstens, whose curling effort forced Marcel Lotka into a spectacular save. The BVB goalkeeper used his fingertips to turn the ball around the post (53). Shortly after the first chance, the ball suddenly almost found the net at the other end.
