“Something mystical”: a new shirt number for Julian Brandt

Julian Brandt is getting a new shirt number for the 2024/25 season: the midfielder will now wear the number 10 for BVB.

When he moved to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019, Brandt took over the number 19 from Mo Dahoud and has played with it for the past five seasons. Now he has, in keeping with his role, taken over the playmaker's number 10.

"It came about after Jadon's loan ended. I had a conversation with Sebastian Kehl about this number years ago. It didn't materialise back then for various reasons, but we've made it happen now," says Julian Brandt. "I've been at the club for a few years now and I'm looking forward to it. It's still something mystical for me."

Players such as Tomas Rosicky and Marcel Raducanu have previously worn the famous number in BVB's history. The number 10 appeared on Jadon Sancho's shirt in the second half of last season.
