Match Report
BVB women pick up three points against Ibbenbüren
In the first half, Borussia struggled to pose a real threat in the final third. Nevertheless, the home side were in control of the game throughout. "We were just missing the goal. Basically, it was a very solid performance. We didn't let our opponents get into the game, stood firm at the back and moved the ball well. But then we often made the wrong decisions in the final third in the first 45 minutes and weren't able to create the chances we had hoped for," said coach Thomas Sulewski in his summary of the first half.
After the break, however, things improved considerably for Borussia in attack. Captain Marie Grothe opened the scoring in the 54th minute. After a corner lofted in from the right, the Ibbenbüren goalkeeper was initially able to clear on the line, but the ball landed at the feet of Grothe, who was able to poke home from point-blank range. In the 66th minute, striker Dana Marquardt once again demonstrated her scoring instincts. Paula Reimann launched a free-kick forward from near the halfway line, which Marquardt headed into the net. And in the 84th minute, it was Marquardt again who netted to bring the final score to 3-0. This time it was Annika Enderle who laid the groundwork, slipping a pass through to Ann-Sophie Vogel on the left. Vogel, in turn, squared to Marquardt, who took the ball past the onrushing Ibbenbürn goalkeeper and slotted home to make it 3-0. As a result, the BVB women remain top of the Westfalenliga table, one point ahead of their rivals from Gelsenkirchen.
Next Sunday, the Borussia women will visit Arminia Bielefeld II. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 CET.
