BVB facts for the match away to Bayern Munich

Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are set to face each other for the 112th time in the Bundesliga and the 137th time overall. Here is a preview of the facts ahead of Saturday's 18:30 CEST kick-off at the Allianz Arena.

The scenario: First versus eighth. Bayern Munich lead the table with a six-point advantage over Bayer Leverkusen. After two recent wins, Borussia Dortmund are now five points off fourth place. Over the past ten years, this pairing has always been a top match: since the summer of 2015, both teams have always been in the top five of the table coming into the clash, and in nine of these 19 matches it was a duel between first and second. That is not the case now. BVB trail Bayern by 27 points.

Home & away: Bayern have won 11 of their last 12 home games. Borussia have 13 fewer away points than at the same point last season.

Head-to-head record: BVB have recently scored in two consecutive Bundesliga matches against Bayern for the first time since 2016 (2-0 in Munich, 1-1 in Dortmund). Against no other club have the Black & Yellows failed to score as often as against Bayern (33 times), but on the other hand, no other Bundesliga club have kept as many clean sheets against Bayern as BVB (23).

test

Statistics: Bayern Munich won more matches than any other team in the league. Almost two thirds of their games (21 out of 28) have ended in victory; no team have suffered fewer defeats (two). 108 goals were scored in these 28 matches - matches involving Bayern have a higher goal average than those of any other team in the league. Borussia Dortmund have not lost any of their previous 11 Bundesliga matches in which they took a 1-0 lead.

Reverse fixture: The goals were scored by 20-year-old Jamie Gittens after a solo run from the halfway line and 21-year-old Jamal Musiala with a header in the 85th minute. Final score 1-1.

Last season: Just under 9,000 Black & Yellow fans among the crowd of 75,000 in the Allianz Arena celebrated Karim Adeyemi's goal in the 10th minute to make it 1-0. In an open, intriguing match with chances on both sides, Felix Nmecha had a chance to make it 2-0 at the start of the second half but was denied by Sven Ulreich in the Bayern goal (53). Julian Ryerson went one better 30 minutes later and increased the lead to 2-0 with a shot from 16 metres out. No cards were shown. Both teams only committed seven fouls each.

Biggest home win: BVB have twice won 3-0 away in Munich: first at the Olympiastadion on 12 October 1991 after goals from Michael Rummenigge (25) and Flemming Povlsen (47) and an own goal by Bayern keeper Gerald Hillringhaus (87). And then at the Allianz Arena on 2 April 2014. Henrikh Mkhitaryan (20), Marco Reus (49) and Jonas Hofmann (56) were the goalscorers.
