BVB sign Maximilian Beier
Lars Ricken, BVB Managing Director for Sport, said: “After selling Niclas Füllkrug, we needed to act. We really wanted to bring in a young player with outstanding potential who we can help develop into a top-level international player in the medium term, and Maximilian Beier fits that profile exactly. We’ve now managed to sign all our five transfer targets this summer, including three German internationals. Several top European clubs were battling for Maximilian’s signature, and we’re delighted that he quickly decided he wanted to come to Borussia Dortmund.”
Beier, who moved to Hoffenheim from the Energie Cottbus youth system at the age of 15, made his breakthrough in the Bundesliga last season and established himself as one of the fastest players in the German top flight. He scored 16 goals in 33 games and was voted “Rookie of the Month” in both February and March 2024. He also received his first senior international call-up in March, and he was part of Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for this summer’s European Championship.
Sebastian Kehl, Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director, said: “Maxi was our top target after Niclas Füllkrug’s departure. He’s very self-assured on the pitch despite his young age, and he has impressive pace, he never stops running and he poses a real goal threat. On top of that, he has the versatility to play in several positions and in various systems. There’s scope for him to develop further, and we’ll help him become an even better player. He’s a down-to-earth person who’s willing to learn, and his hard work and commitment make him the perfect fit for BVB.”
Maximilian Beier said: “I’m really excited to take this next major step in my career. I had a fantastic feeling from the moment I first spoke to Borussia Dortmund, because I could tell that they really wanted to bring me here. I’m proud that I now play for one of the best teams in Europe, and I can’t wait to get started and to put a smile on the fans’ faces. The club’s goals are the same as mine: we want to win titles. And I’ll do everything I can to make that happen.”
