Daniel Svensson
Daniel Svensson has been a Borussia player since February 2025. The Swedish defender was initially loaned out by Danish top-tier club Nordsjælland until the end of the season. During the negotiations, BVB secured the option to sign Svensson permanently in the summer.
"I love having the ball and I like to play attacking football, in other words going forward to score goals," is how the physically strong left-back describes himself. The 22-year-old, who moved from Scandinavia to the Ruhr region "with full motivation," wants to give his all "so that we as a team can celebrate many successes together with the fans."
Born on 12 February 2002 in Stockholm, Svensson began playing football north-west of the Swedish capital in the youth ranks of Irsta IF. After a spell at Skiljebo SK, the 1.83-metre tall defender moved to IF Brommapojkarna at the age of 12, where he made his senior professional debut in 2020. After six appearances in the Swedish top tier, Svensson left the club and moved to Danish first-division club FC Nordsjælland.
In the neighbouring Scandinavian country, Svensson initially started for the U19s before making his debut for the first team in November 2020, which he crowned with an assist. The Swede played a total of 153 games for Nordsjaelland, scoring eight goals and providing a further 20 assists. The full-back also took part in the UEFA Conference League with the Danes and gained his first international experience.
The young defender's consistently strong performances, including for the national youth teams, were rewarded with a call-up to Sweden's senior squad. The 22-year-old made his debut in the UEFA Nations League on 14 October 2024, coming on as a substitute in the 89th minute of the 3-0 win in Estonia.
The move to Borussia Dortmund is another particularly important milestone for Svensson: "It's something I really wanted to do. After my call-up to the Swedish national team, the move to a top European club like Borussia Dortmund is another great step in my career."
