To achieve this, BVB will need to be among the top four teams in Group D (opponents: Leipzig, Karlsruher SC, Union Berlin, FSV Mainz 05, SpVgg Unterhaching).  \n<\/p>\nThe German Championship is being played in this format for the first time, after 21 years of the final round being preceded by four Under-19 Bundesligas. The league reform is one of the most important strategic changes which the former BVB youth coach Hannes Wolf has initiated in his role as DFB Director for Youth, Training and Development.  \n<\/p>\nFrom this weekend, 24 teams which reached League A via eight preliminary round groups will be split into four groups and will play to determine the 16 teams that go through to the normal knockout round of the German Championship. The Dortmund lads have some long journeys ahead of them, as well as some exciting matches, some of which will be against teams which no BVB Under-19s team has played in a competitive match before (Karlsruhe, Union Berlin, Unterhaching). The following teams will be Borussia's opponents: \n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leipzig<\/b> (First match 1. February, 12:00 CET; Second match in Dortmund 9. March, 11:00 CET)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe team from Saxony, coached by Sebastian Heidinger, finished second in preliminary round group B behind Chemnitzer FC, but ahead of favourites Hertha BSC Berlin. The team's solid defense is what makes it stand out. The most well-known player is striker Robert Ramsak, who became European and world champion with the German Under-17s national team. Other current DFB national players are Nuha Jatta (Under-19s), Fernando Dickes and Viggo Gebel (both Under-18s). The team from Leipzig finished 32nd in the UEFA Youth League table with only one win against FC Liverpool (3-1), and were eliminated.  \n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Karlsruher SC <\/b>(First match in Dortmund Saturday, 8. February, 11:00 CET; Second match 23. March, 11:00 CET)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe biggest surprise of the strong preliminary round group D came when the Under-19s squad of the second league team secured first place in the table, charging ahead with 35 points and a goal difference of 42-11, ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt (28 points) and the equally highly rated FSV Mainz 05 (26). "This cohort had already won nine of 13 games last year in the second half of the Bundesliga South, and that made them realise that as a young cohort, they can beat more experienced teams," said coach Ralf Kettemann, explaining the success of his very homogenous squad. KSC also reached the semi-final of the DFB Cup, beating Bayern Munich, Hertha BSC and Union Berlin. The outstanding players on the team are striker Fanol Lutolli (10 goals in the league) and Louey Farhat (9), as well as defender Rafael Pedrosa, who has already played in the second Bundesliga, and Under-19s national player Mateo Kritzer.  \n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Union Berlin <\/b>(First match 16. February, 12:00 CET; Second match in Dortmund 30. March, 11:00 CET)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe "iron men" were beaten in preliminary group round D only by VfL Wolfsburg (31 points), and finished second in the table with 27 points, ahead of Hamburg SV (23).
