BVB and Zimmermann will part ways in summer

BVB and U23s coach Jan Zimmermann will part ways after the current season has come to an end. Zimmermann approached the club with the request to be released from his contract, which is still valid until 30 June 2026, once the current season has finished.

Borussia Dortmund's managing director Lars Ricken said: "Jan took over our U23s at the start of 2023 when they were in a very precarious position. He not only helped them to avoid relegation that season, but established them as a third league team the following year. We are certain that Jan will help the team to stay in the league this season too, which has involved a lot of challenges for us. While recognising his services to the club, we will nevertheless fulfil his request to be released from his contract early. But for now we are fully focused on our remaining games."

Zimmermann came to BVB in February 2023 and ensured that the team avoided relegation, gaining 24 points in 16 games. Last season the Black&Yellow U23s finished safely in the middle of the table in 11th place.

Zimmermann said: "I made a conscious decision to coach a junior team and am very grateful to BVB for this experience. For me, Borussia Dortmund is a special club, I've met so many great people here. It was always a privilege to help my lads to develop along their journey. I've gained a lot of new insights here and have learned a lot. I especially want to thank Ingo Preuß for his friendly collaboration."
