Sebastian Kehl extends until 2027

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and sporting director Sebastian Kehl are set to move into the future together. The 44-year-old this Thursday put pen to paper on a contract with the eight-time German champions that runs until 30 June 2027.

“Sebastian and I have known and trusted each other for many years. Over the past few weeks, we have held intensive discussions about content, structures and economic matters and have now brought these to a positive conclusion. Our primary objective is clear: in the coming years, we want to be continuously represented in the UEFA Champions League and play the role required for that in the Bundesliga. To achieve these goals, we will continue to pool all our forces. As sporting director, Sebastian has my full support in this endeavour,” said Borussia Dortmund's Managing Director for Sport Lars Ricken.

Sebastian Kehl wore the BVB shirt as a player for 13 years, lifted three German Bundesliga titles, won the league and cup double in 2012 and captained the team for six years. He became head of the licensed player division in 2018 and finally succeeded Michael Zorc as sporting director in the summer of 2022.

"I'm extremely connected to Borussia Dortmund and am delighted to be able to continue working for this great club. I feel the trust that our management has placed in me as sporting director and would like to thank Lars in particular for the good and constructive discussions over the past few weeks,” said Sebastian Kehl, adding: ”We have agreed on clear competencies and responsibilities and have great ambitions together. I will continue to do my part to ensure that we lead BVB into a successful future."
