Rothe moves to Union Berlin
Rothe had already departed from the BVB training camp in Bad Ragaz (Switzerland) on Tuesday morning in order to complete the obligatory medical check in the capital.
The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at the Bundesliga's promoted club Holstein Kiel and made a key contribution to their success, playing 33 matches (four goals). Rothe, who came through the ranks at Dortmund's youth academy, made a total of four Bundesliga appearances (one goal) for BVB.
"After his years with us at the Youth Training Centre, Tom recently gained important experience in senior men's football in Kiel. Now he needs and wants to take the next step in the Bundesliga by getting as much playing time as possible. We wish him all the best in Berlin and every possible personal sporting success," declared BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl, who continued: "We will be keeping very close tabs on Tom's performances at Union and are excited to see how his development continues."
