Sébastien Haller moves to CD Leganes on loan

Several minutes before the end of the transfer window, Borussia Dortmund agreed to loan their centre-forward Sébastien Haller, 30, to Spanish top-tier promoted outfit CD Leganes.

The loan agreement is limited to the 2024/25 campaign, which has just started.

"The story that connects us with Sébastien was a special one, is a special one and will always remain a special one. Sébastien's cancer illness was a decisive turning point in his life and for his family and friends. During this difficult time, the entire BVB family stood by his side. I will personally never forget the happiness I felt at having him back with us in good health," said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl, who continued: "It is now important for Sébastien that he plays regularly again and feels the joy of a goal celebration as frequently as possible. He absolutely wants to take the chance he now has in La Liga – and we hope from the bottom of our hearts that he does."

Haller, who moved to the Strobelallee from Ajax in 2022, has to date made 33 Bundesliga appearances (nine goals and five assists) and played six Champions League games, among others, for BVB.

Please avoid the area around the stadium on the day of the game and stay in the city centre. \n<\/p>\nDue to the large distance to the stadium and for security reasons, a fan march to the stadium is prohibited. However, none of the Borussians were able to get to the ball ahead of the defenders to force it over the line. In the 13th minute, the home side took advantage of their first opportunity: After a through ball cut open the Dortmund defence, Kira Lake dinked the ball over Sandra Schröer and into the back of the net.<\/p>\nSarah Giebels then had a similar opportunity down the other end just a minute later, but she was denied by the Ibbenbüren goalkeeper. In the 37th minute, it was another through-ball that opened up an opportunity, this time for Dortmund: Marie Grothe slipped in Marah Tayeh, who took the ball in her stride in the right-hand side of the box, skipped past one defender but was then crowded out just as she looked to shoot. So it was that the Black & Yellows went into the dressing room for half-time 1-0 down on the scoresheet. <\/p>\nAfter the change of ends, coach Thomas Sulewski's team came out of the blocks better and had significantly more possession than the hosts in the second half. In the 58th minute, captain Grothe finally grabbed the equaliser to bring the score to 1-1. After a quick throw-in, a mix-up between an Ibbenbüren defender and her goalkeeper allowed Grothe to snatch the ball and score from a tight angle.<\/p>\nWith chances coming and going for both sides, it was Marjana Naceva who finally settled the game in Dortmund's favour. In the 84th minute, Hannah Geldschläger won a decisive header in midfield, putting the ball into the path of Mandy Reinhardt. Reinhardt moved the ball on to the onrushing Naceva, who was able to chip the ball over the goalkeeper into the back of the net.
