Post-Match Report

Reactions: "We didn't kill the game"

Head coach Nuri Sahin, sporting director Sebastian Kehl, Pascal Groß, Maximilian Beier and Nico Schlotterbeck spoke about the 1-1 draw in Mönchengladbach. The match reactions.

Nuri Sahin (to Sky): "It's extremely frustrating. The only reproach that I can make of us is that we didn't kill the game. We controlled it, we scored the goal for 1-0. We should've scored the second goal but we didn't do that. But you can also win matches 1-0; you get three points for that too. You must either score the second one or defend the lead. It wasn't a penalty for me, but we shouldn't be letting Plea head the ball after the corner in the first place. That frustrates me. It hurts immensely, more than the lost away games. But we must and we will learn from it. From tomorrow we'll be looking forward to the game against Barcelona, but tonight is simply just frustrating."

test

Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): "It's two points dropped. After the opening goal, I had the feeling we'd win the game. I cannot understand the fact the video assistant intervened in the incident because it was not a clearly wrong decision for me. And that's the point of the whole thing. There's always holding in the penalty area. If such situations led to a penalty, we could talk about 10 more of them per match. Nonetheless, we still had opportunities after that. In the case of Maxi (editor's note: Beier) and Niki (Süle), we need to wait and see. In his case, it's the damaged angle. In Maxi's case, we're assuming that it's not so bad. We have to wait and see."

Pascal Groß (to Sky): "There was more in it. We had more of the game, more moments, even if we didn't continually have huge chances. We were the better team. We of course want to create more chances. If you have a lot of the ball away from home, that's okay, but you also want to be dangerous. It was a super piece of individual play from Jamie (editor's note: Gittens). He did that very well. Those are his qualities."

test

Nico Schlotterbeck (to Sky): "It is frustrating to go home with one point. We conceded the goal that made it 1-1 relatively quickly and Gladbach hit the crossbar after a set-piece, but otherwise we defended relatively well. But we cannot be satisfied with a draw in Mönchengladbach. We put in a decent away performance but not more than that either. We could have played better and more tidily. Now we have a big match coming up, a home game against Barcelona. The stadium will be on fire."

Maximilian Beier (in the mixed zone): "There was more in it in my opinion, the penalty is controversial. It is not a clearly wrong decision, so he doesn't need to go off and take a look at it. We'll take the point and want to do better when we face Hoffenheim at home next weekend."
